In the first part of the talk, I will introduce the concept of cluster Mott insulator and explain its physics and theory that we developed on our own. We explain the emergent orbitals from charge and spin interaction. We explain the anomalous spin susceptibility of cluster magnet LiZn2Mo3O8. In the second part of the talk, I explain the interplay between the conduction electrons and local moments in Pr2Ir2O7, and propose the idea of topological engineering in this system.

Dr. Gang Chen is a USTC alumni with university’s highest honor. He received his PhD with Leon Balents at UC Santa Barbara and then hold independent postdoc positions at CU Boulder and Univ of Toronto. He was appointed Professor of Physics at Fudan University in Winter 2014 and started the position in Summer 2015. He has a broad interest in strongly correlated systems, and most of his works are experimentally motivated.
